For PhD Students
We currently have two open calls for PhD students to join the laboratory. One is sponsored by the Grantham Institute on Climate Change and the Environment (details here) and one by the Department of Life Sciences (details here). The project supported by Grantham is focused on the use of AI and ethomics to study the pharmacology of behaviour in Drosophilids. The work builds on our previous efforts to objectify and simplify the study of behaviour in Drosophila (see for instance Geissmann et al 2017, Jones et al 2023) and to combine AI and robotics for the study of neuroscience. This is a fantastic opportunity to specialise in neuroscience, AI, while at the same time create real-world impact on climate change and ecology. The second studentship is not linked to a particular project at this stage, and its direction would depend on the interests and affinity of the student, but it would likely gravitate around sleep and/or neurobiology of Drosophila. I would recommend any applicant to familiarise with our recent literature.
To apply:
Please send an email with the following documentation:
- Statement of Purpose / Cover letter
- Your CV, containing the name and address of two contacts for reference letters
The deadline for applications is January 12th 2026! Both calls welcome home and international candidates to apply; however, the scholarships will cover home fees only and international students may have to cover the difference in fees. If you are unsure about your fees status or want more information please do not hesitate to reach out via email.
For Postdoctoral fellows
I would be happy to sponsor good applicants for external fellowships. We have been successful in the past with EMBO LTFs, EMBO STFs, and Marie Curie IFs and I am proud to say that all of the previous postdocs went on to open their independent research activities.
If you are interested in working in the lab and you have a competitive CV, please do get in touch.
